Leadership and Accountability

  • Leadership is situational.  Understanding the situation and matching the appropriate skills and behaviors are the keys to success.

  • Leaders may be born, but they certainly can be made.  It takes awareness, commitment and practice.

  •  The myth of the charismatic leader is just that—a myth.  Great leaders have vision, focus, integrity, and they communicate with all stakeholders.

  •  Everyone, at every level of the organization, is a leader of something.  Everyone should understand leadership and accountability.

  •  Without accountability there is only chaos.  Clear roles and responsibilities are gifts, enabling people to focus on the work and not the politics.

  •  You can be nice and still hold people to account.  They are not mutually exclusive.  Unless the situation calls for something else.  Trust your judgment.  You know who you can count on and who needs some prodding.  Always be respectful.

  •  Objective measures make accountability easy—everyone understand what is expected and whether it has been accomplished.  Clarity creates commitment and results.
